Catalogue entry

From Saint-Cloud this view looks towards Mont Valerien with the two bridges of Saint-Cloud below.1 The sketch has been loosely related to the gouache and watercolour design of Bridge of St-Cloud from Sèvres, c.1833 (Tate D24689; Turner Bequest CCLIV 124) for Turner’s Annual Tour, 1835 (Tate T05620); although that design is more closely based on sketches made in the Paris and Environs sketchbook in 1832 (Tate D24454 and D24457; Turner Bequest CCLVII 146a, 148).2
For further sketches made at Saint-Cloud in the present book, see folio 3 verso (Tate D24505; Turner Bequest CCLVIII 27a).
