Catalogue entry

With the sketchbook turned horizontally, Turner filled the centre of this page with a loose study of a windmill and church tower. Tate curator Ian Warrell has suggested that the drawing was taken near Nantes.1 The pages of this volume feature many depictions of Nantes, a list of which is included in the sketchbook introduction for comparison.
