Accepted by the nation as part of the Turner Bequest 1856
Drawn with the sketchbook inverted. The woman appears to be gleaning, or perhaps bending to pick up vegetables in which case she may have been sketched in the market-place which Turner drew on folios 33 and 34 of the sketchbook (D06552, D06553; Turner Bequest C 32, 33).
