Display caption

Twombly usually makes his sculptures using found materials, often choosing quite ordinary objects, before casting them in bronze. Many of his sculptures incorporate discarded pieces of wood, such as the circular tops of olive oil barrels used in this work. The title is an invented word which is close to the Italian ‘rotella’, meaning little wheel.
