The image, which is presented in the form of a watermark, relates to four woodcuts Tyson made for Zen in 1981, a book published by Wolfgang Tiessen in Neueisenberg, West Germany. It also relates to the five woodcuts in ‘Utamaro Variations’ published by the artist in 1982. The watermark was created by cutting the shape in very thin polystyrene which was then sewed onto the paper mould with thin nylon thread.
