The title of this work, ‘<>>’, refers to the symbols shown on the rewind and fast-forward buttons of a tape recorder. The device on the table plays a recording of a 2008 performance by the artist, recalling a journey taken when he was 17 years old from his hometown of Southend-on-Sea to Yokohama, Japan. This narrative is mixed with references to the room where the performance took place. Digital prints relating to the performance are also presented alongside the tape player and are available for the viewer to browse.
