The bust was begun in Paris whilst Derwent Wood was doing busts of Clemenceau, Marshal Foch and Woodrow Wilson, who were attending the First Peace Conference, on commission from Lord Rothermere. At the sculptor's request Lawrence sat to him during the intervals between the sittings of his other subjects. Only the plaster busts of Clemenceau and Foch were completed and are in the Imperial War Museum, where there is also the plaster of Lawrence… (read more)
