With the sketchbook turned to the right are rough sketches of three costumed figures seen from behind. It is hard to glean much information from these rough sketches (which describe little about the figures or their clothes), but it would no doubt have been enough to jog Turner’s memory if he wanted to recall their appearance. The sketch belongs to a series of studies of figures in fancy costumes that are scattered throughout this sketchbook (see folio 57; D25745 for details).
