Turner has used this page to jot down various sightings at Dieppe. There are street signs at top left and two sketches of soldiers with separate details of their dress (a collar, boots) accompanied by annotations. Notes such as ‘White Lilies on Flap’, ‘Black W[hite]’, ‘R[e]d Gold’, ‘Black Gold’, and ‘Light Blue’ appear to describe the colours and embellishments of their uniforms. The soldiers may be associated with the ‘Bureau Des Préposés des Officier Douans’ [Bureau de Douane: the Customs Office]. Turner has also made note of the ‘British Consulate’ and the ‘Depot de Tabac’, [Dépôt de Tabac’ or tobacco storehouse].
