This is the left half of a two-page panorama of Plompton Rocks continued to the right on folio 6 (D10878) opposite, recording the view looking north from the dam in the lake. The sketch almost exactly revisits the view that Turner recorded in the oil painting, Plompton Rocks (Harewood House)1 painted 1797–8 for Harewood.
