Lievens’s (Jan Lievens 1607–1674) picture was painted 1638–40 for the Jesuit church in Brussels. It was acquired by Louis XV in Brussels in 1777, during the sale of pictures from the collections of the Flemish Jesuits which followed the suppression of the Society of Jesus.
