There is a path or stream receding to the right. The tree on the left is heavily and vigorously shaded to suggest deep shadow. There are no identifiable landmarks as lightly indicated foliage screens the distance, below which marks may indicate figures or animals, but given the sketch’s position among Cornish views at this stage in the sketchbook, it may also show a scene in the county.
