This was a right-hand page from the sketchbook. Gage relates this ‘tree-study’ to an oil sketch Willows beside a Stream (Tate N02706)1 but this comparison is inconclusive and does not help with identifying a location. As Hill notes, an oil stain on the right of this leaf suggests that it originally followed Tate D05909; Turner Bequest XCV 5, a view of Bisham Church and Abbey, in the sketchbook.
