One of a number of sketches in this sketchbook made around Guildford; as Turner was evidently now working backwards in the book, as pointed out by Hill, this was probably the last of them before he continued to his final stop on the Wey Navigation, Newark Priory (see chiefly catalogue note to folio 105 verso; D06296) while folio 118 verso (D06322) begins the sequence with a view of St Catherine’s Hill from the south.
