This is the same view as in folio 32 recto (D06405; Turner Bequest XCIX 28) seen more closely. A large ship, partly dismasted and with an awning over her stern, is probably one of the hulks or service ships that were moored in the Medway; compare Turner’s watercolour Rochester, on the River Medway (Tate D18156; Turner Bequest CCVIII W) engraved for The Rivers of England.
