The identification of Lewes is correctly given by Edward Croft-Murray in pencil annotations to a copy of Finberg now in Tate’s Library. Here, and on folio 37 of the sketchbook (D05654) Turner shows the Ouse passing below the town and castle. For Lewes in this sketchbook see note to folio 31 (D05648).
