Perhaps a right-hand page of the sketchbook, as there are stitch holes on the left.
This view of the entrance front of Herstmonceux Castle was adopted for the watercolour made for John Fuller (private collection)1 and engraved (in open etching only) by William Bernard Cooke in 1820, and not published. It has been claimed that the watercolour is dated 18172 but as noted by Eric Shanes it is only signed and likely to be earlier, based on Turner’s visit in 1810. The watercolour follows the drawing quite closely but enlarges the castle. It includes the cattle noted here by Turner, but shows only four. For the castle, see notes to the drawings in the Herstmonceux and Pevensey sketchbook (especially Tate D05656; Turner Bequest XCI 39), perhaps made several years earlier.
The leaf listed separately by Finberg as ‘Page 6’ from this sketchbook is now combined with the present one.
