This leaf was one of six said by Finberg to be ‘loose and unnumbered’ but which ‘probably belonged to this [sketch]book’.1 It is now bound in with other Ramsgate subjects, for which see note to folio 22 verso (D10451).These are similar views of the approach to Ramsgate harbour from the north as on folios 24 and 26 and verso (D10576, 10584, 10583; Turner Bequest CXL 85, 89a, 89), leading to the subject engraved by Robert Wallis in 1824 for Picturesque Views on the Southern Coast of England and, via the watercolour (Tate D18150; Turner Bequest CCVIII Q), to The Ports of England.
