Continued on folio 88 of the sketchbook (D10568; Turner Bequest CXL 80), the image appears inverted according to the present foliation. There is a further double-spread study of trees on folios 88 verso–89 (D10569–D10570; Turner Bequest CXL 80a–81). The trees are presumably on Richmond Hill and Butlin and Joll cite these drawing along with others running to folio 90 (D10572; Turner Bequest CXL 82) as similar in general terms to the composition of England: Richmond Hill, on the Prince Regent’s Birthday (Tate N00502)1 exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1819. The picture has tall, elegant trees framing its composition.
