Accepted by the nation as part of the Turner Bequest 1856
As in folio 13 (D13473), this view was taken from the east near Tynemouth. The view is therefore up river with North Shields at the right and South Shields at the left on the continuing page (folio 9 verso; D13466). North Shields is dominated by its three harbour lights: the Low Light at the left and the High Light at the right with the lower decommissioned old beacon in between. The Tyne is busy with shipping from the shipyards of North Shields and those on their route to and from Newcastle.
