Accepted by the nation as part of the Turner Bequest 1856
This view along the Firth of Forth may show Rosyth Castle standing, as it did then, on a low promontory that was covered at high tide.1 Although it is only shown in outline, the general shape matches that of the castle, meaning that this view is looking west along the north shore of the Forth. The drawing continues on folio 45 (D13537) which shows the steep banks of the Forth towering above a small house or shack.
