Accepted by the nation as part of the Turner Bequest 1856
Standing in the Roman Forum at a point near to the western face of the Arch of Septimius Severus, Turner has drawn the view looking square on towards the eight surviving Ionic columns of the Temple of Saturn. On the right are the three columns of the ruined Temple of Vespasian.
