For the old Servoz road, from which, as pointed out by David Hill in correspondence with the author,1 this view of the Arve valley was probably taken, see inside front cover and folios 1, 54 and 55 of this sketchbook (D04393, D04449, D04450). Further sketches from the road in this sketchbook are listed under the last of these. Turner’s inscription, meaning ‘ditto’, refers to the sketch facing this one on folio 57 verso (D04454).
