This is one of a number of sketches in this book made during Turner’s passage by boat from Thun to Unterseen; for the journey see note to folio 1 (D04649). It appears to be a more distant view of the town and bay of Spiez, on the southern shore of the lake, of which there is a closer view on folio 5 (D04653). Spiez was perhaps Turner’s next port of call after Oberhofen, for which see folio 67 (D04727).
