There are two studies of figures in boats on this page, one of two figures in a small rowing boat drawn at the bottom of the page with the sketchbook inverted, and one at the outer edge of the page with the book turned to the left from its usual orientation which is likely to be of the same figures and vessel. The studies belong to a series of five sketches on the Thames in this sketchbook (see folio 38 verso; D17710 for references).
