The ruined castle here, with its donjon and curtain walls, is clearly that of Blâmont between Lunéville and Nancy. Returning home across France, Turner passed it on his way to Nancy, for which see folio11 of this sketchbook (D04746), as he did also the nearby town of St Nicolas-de-Port, for which see folio 10 (D04745). Thus the sequence of this group of drawings, fortuitously or not, presumably follows the original despite the later rebinding of the book.
