Pencil on white wove paper, 154 x 240 mm
Inscribed by John Ruskin in red ink ‘877’ top right, inverted
Inscribed by an unknown hand in ink ‘226’ (within a circle) top left, inverted, and in blue pencil ‘210’ lower right of centre, inverted
This sketch (made with the sketchbook inverted) is probably a view of Lake Brienz towards Ringgenberg Castle, similar to that on folio 46 verso (
D04791), for which see catalogue entry for related works. It was not visible to Finberg, the leaf having been removed from the book and laid down on a mount to display the recto (
D04790) for exhibition at Oxford.
