This subject continues, drawn in pen as well as pencil, on folio 6 of the sketchbook (D05358).
Evidently studied from life, the group is related to Turner’s unfinished painting Harvest Home (Tate N00562).1 In the picture the agent appears at right, dispensing pay or a harvest bonus to estate workers and their families who queue up at his table.
