Joseph Mallord William Turner 1775–1851

The sketch or sketches drawn with the book inverted across folios 27 verso–28 (D25577) show a lake surrounded by mountains. The view may be of Derwentwater, though there are several places this could be in the Lake District, such as Buttermere Lake looking towards Skiddaw (present page) or perhaps Ullswater. The foreground detail may be confused with other sketches, especially on folio 28.
