With the sketchbook turned to the right is a page ripped in half and subsequently repaired at the bottom left. It contains four sketches of ecclesiastical architectural features. At the left are two sketches of arches, probably belonging to part of an arcade, and at the left there is the top of a column with its capital and vaulting above it. Beneath this is a shape that probably represents a detail for a capital.
Finberg has suggested that Turner’s inscription ‘Jed’ may indicate that these are sketches of Jedburgh Abbey.1 Another sketch on folio 11 verso (D25662) is probably also associated with this sketch. Folio 13 may also be a view of the abbey (D25664; Turner Bequest CCLXV 13). See also inside front cover (D41232).
