The larger sketch on this page is of Hailes Castle from the north-east across the River Tyne as in folio 43 verso (D25999; CCLXVII 43a). Hailes Mill is again shown in the foreground at the bottom right. For more information about Hailes see folio 24 verso (D25971; CCLXVII 24a).
At the left of the page, with the sketchbook turned to the right, is a rather rough sketch of a towered building seen between trees and houses, possibly with an arched bridge to the right and the reflections of the building in the water beneath it. This is likely to be the nearby Haddington Collegiate Church, reflected in the River Tyne with Nungate Bridge to the right. See folio 45 verso (D26003; CCLXVII 45a).
