Joseph Mallord William Turner A Bridge, with a Fisherman 1808

Joseph Mallord William Turner 1775–1851
Folio 7 Recto:
A Bridge, with a Fisherman 1808
D07126
Turner Bequest CV 90
Pencil on white wove paper, 108 x 185 mm

Accepted by the nation as part of the Turner Bequest 1856
Listed by Finberg as one of a batch of ‘loose leaves appear[ing] to belong to this book’ this was rebound as folio 7. The bottom right corner is repaired and there are traces of gum on the back, suggesting that the leaf was laid down or mounted. However, Finberg does not record it as having been in any early exhibitions.
The unidentified bridge is drawn much more carefully, with delicate hatching and shading, than most other subjects in the book; the only real comparison is the drawing of a stream, also unidentified, now bound after it as folio 8 (D07128; Turner Bequest CV 91).
