This view continues on folio 87 verso (D07105; Turner Bequest CV 77a) to include Somerset House. While still quite slight, this is Turner’s most detailed drawing of Waterloo Bridge in this sketchbook, showing the paired Doric columns facing each pier and the iron lanterns centred above the arches. The bridge seen through the arches is Blackfriars. See Introduction for plans in the mid 1820s for a series of London subjects, including London Bridge, the Custom House and the Tower.
