Turner sketched as he left Oban Bay on a steamboat bound for Skye via the Sound of Mull. Having drawn the coast near Oban (inside back cover–folio 1; D41019–D26936), the artist turned to the west to sketch the island of Kerrera as his boat passed by (folios 1 verso–2; D26937–D26938). The sketch on the present page may show the island again, this time from the Firth of Lorn to the north. The shape of the rocks suggests Kerrera with the tidal island of Rubh ’a Chruidh at the north-east of the larger island to the left. The very slight sketch beneath this one may be a continuation from the right of the main sketch. Turner also drew a few outlines at the top right of the page.
