Turner made these three sketches of Invergarry Castle as he passed it while travelling up Loch Oich towards Fort Augustus and Inverness. Having made sketches on his approach to the castle on folio 12 (D26984) and perhaps also on folio 10 verso (D26981), and as he passed by (folios 12 verso; D26985), the artist continued sketching as he moved away from the castle.
We therefore start at the top of the page with a view of the castle with the northern foothills of Ben Tee behind it from nearby to the north-east. Beneath is a sketch from a little further off, now with the summit of ‘Ben Tee’ visible behind the castle. Finally, with the sketchbook inverted at the bottom of the page is a more distant view from the north, again with Ben Tee in the distance. At the left of the sketch is a boat at anchor on the eastern shore of Loch Oich.
