Turner inscribed this sketch ‘Lee Pen’, referring to the pointed mountain in the background that can be seen in this view of Innerleithen from across the River Tweed. Turner has indicated a row of ‘Firs’ at the left, which he has drawn as four vertical lines with no foliage so that they do not obscure the hill beyond. Sketches made at Innerleithen and Traquair are on folios 14 verso–18 (D26121–D26128).
