This sketch follows views of Newark Castle (folios 36–38 verso; D26164–D26169) and precedes a sketch of Bowhill House (folio 39 verso; D26171) in the sketchbook, suggesting that it depicts the Yarrow Water between the castle and the mansion to the south. The inscription at the top right of the page is therefore likely to read ‘Bowhill Rd’, rather than ‘Barred Gt’, as Wallace-Hadrill has suggested.1
