This small and slight sketch of a riverbank follows two sketches of Abbotsford, the neo-gothic home of Sir Walter Scott (see folio 47; D26186). It is possible that the house is depicted at the centre of this sketch, though it is too roughly drawn to be certain. The shapes of the hills in the background, however, do make a good match for the view across the Tweed from the west. See folio 47 for more information on Turner’s Abbotsford sketches.
There are pale brown stains across the top of the page, and at the top and centre of the foredge of the page.
