The main sketch on this page is a view of Dunblane Cathedral from the south-west, showing the west end, the nave and the bell tower. Surrounding the sketch Turner has made studies of various architectural details including a row of corbels at the top, and buttresses and windows (inscribed ‘6’ to remind him how many there were) to the bottom right. Turner made this sketch having already drawn the opposite side of the cathedral on the reverse of the page: folio 57 (D26367).
At the right of the page, drawn with the sketchbook turned to the right, is a view of the cathedral from perhaps two-hundred metres away to the north. Drawn in outline the bell tower rises above the trees at the left, and at the right is the Allen Water. Turner made two further view from the north on folio 58 (D26369). For more information about Turner’s sketches of Dunblane, see folio 57 (D26367).
