This slight, cursive view of what appears to be a valley framed by trees below rolling hills, perhaps with buildings in the middle distance, is difficult to make out against the printed text showing through from the recto of the leaf (D08380). It is not recorded in Finberg’s Turner Bequest Inventory.1 Given that the sequence of drawings in this sketchbook does not entirely conform to Turner’s route on his West Country tour (see the introduction to the book), it is not possible to suggest a likely location for this generic sketch.
