There are sketches of warships or hulks, perhaps on the Hamoaze (the Tamar Estuary) near Mount Edgcumbe to the south, on folio 195 recto (D08717; CXXIII 192), and of Saltash on the Tamar to the north on folio 198 recto (D08721; CXXIII 195). Falling between them, the viewpoint of this and the drawing on folio 196 recto opposite (D08719; CXXIII 193) appears to be on or near the shore at Wilcove, north of Torpoint, Cornwall, with Turner here looking east across the Hamoaze to Plymouth Dock (later Devonport) and south-east to Mount Edgcumbe.
For other views in the Plymouth area in this sketchbook and elsewhere, see under folio 3 verso (D08367).
