Although there are various sketches of the naval shipping and hulks moored around Plymouth (see under folio 3 verso (D08367)) in this sketchbook, there are few indications of any military presence. The triangular outlines here may be of conical bell tents, possibly in an encampment on open ground, although they appear rather widely dispersed. There are similar silhouettes on folio 210 verso (D08741; CXXIII 207a).
