The central stone, once one upright of a trilithon in the inner ‘horseshoe’, has since been set upright and one of the inner trilithons has been reconstructed to its left, as the counterpart to the one shown here on the far right. There is a drawing from further out at a similar angle in the Stonehenge sketchbook used on the same visit, extending the view north-westward to the left (Tate D41386; Turner Bequest CXXV b 13).
