The castle is seen from lower ground to the north, with Corfe Castle village hidden beyond. From the relative angles of the keep and towers, the drawing appears to have been made from slightly east of that on folio 3 recto (D08810). The National Trust visitor centre now stands in the valley of the Corfe River in the foreground. A similar viewpoint today is from across the level crossing over the Norden to Swanage railway line behind the centre, but as the line cuts into the lower slope of East Hill on the left it is difficult to judge Turner’s exact position.
