The view is down the Dart Estuary to the south-east from Townstall Hill, with the tower of St Saviour’s Church in the middle distance to the left and the shallow spire of St Petrox’s Church above Dartmouth Castle in the distance. The treatment beyond the foreground trees is left slight, as there is a more detailed view of the town, apparently from a little lower and to the west, on folio 46 recto (D08861); see the entry for the latter for other Dartmouth studies.
Verso:
Blank, save for very faint inscription by John Ruskin in red ink ‘2’ bottom left, upside down. A tear has been repaired at top left.
