Turner looks south-east from Readymoney Cove, south of Fowey, across the mouth of the Fowey Estuary to the sea. St Catherine’s Castle is on the headland to the right of centre (but now obscured by trees from this point), with the ruined St Saviour’s Chapel on the skyline on the Polruan side between the trees on the left.
This is the last of a sequence of Fowey views, commenced on folio 19 verso (D08889; CXXV 18a), under which the history of the castle and other Fowey views are discussed.
