This swift outline sketch represents a view of Naples from the sea to the east. Visible beside the shoreline to the left is the Castel Nuovo, whilst to the right is the Mole lighthouse of the old port. Rising on the far left-hand side is the hill surmouned by the Certosa di San Martino and the Castel Sant’Elmo. The composition continues on the opposite sheet of the double-page spread, see folio 8 verso (D15923).
