The subject of this landscape sketch is tentatively identified as a view of the Posillipo Hill with a villa described in a sketch by John Robert Cozens (1752–1797) as ‘Casino Sannazaro’.1 A similar view can be found in the Naples: Rome C. Studies sketchbook (Tate D16097; Turner Bequest CLXXXVII 10). Alternatively it may represent the Vomero Hill in Naples.
