The sketches on this page represent the rugged stretch of coast near Torregaveta, a village situated between Cape Misenum (Capo Miseno) and Cumae. The vista in the top right-hand corner for example depicts the view looking south along the shoreline towards the distant islands of San Martino, Procida and Ischia. The larger landscape sketch on the left represents the hill of Torregaveta, and the composition continues on the opposite sheet of the double-page spread with a view of Lake Fusaro, see folio 84 (D15721; Turner Bequest CLXXXIV 82).
