The two sketches on this page appear to represent views beside the shores of a lake in Italy. Their rough nature suggests that they were drawn extremely swiftly, possibly from a moving vehicle. Amidst the landscape the artist has noted a number of incidental details of human interest such as the ox pulling a cart, and the figure of a woman wearing a straw hat.
